International Women's Day Movie Screening: General Magic

Event Description

This International Women’s day, One HealthTech have been celebrating failures - exploring how we can learn from them to become a better, stronger and more resilient bunch of health techies! With that in mind, we will be screening General Magic - a film about, what Forbes described as, the “most important dead company in Silicon Valley”.

From the first smartphones to social media, e-commerce and even emojis, the ideas that now dominate the tech industry and our day-to-day lives were born at General Magic, a 1989 Silicon Valley startup that most of us haven't heard of.

General Magic, is a tale of how great vision and epic failure can change the world. The film features members of the original Mac team along with the creators of the iPhone, Android and eBay.

These designers, engineers and entrepreneurs saw the future decades before it happened. General Magic captures the spirit of those of us who dare to dream big and the life-changing consequences when we fail, fail again, fail better, and ultimately succeed. You can watch the trailer here and follow the film on Twitter.

General Magic was directed by Sarah Kerruish, Chief Strategy Officer at London based AI company Kheiron. Kheiron are using deep learning to detect early signs of cancer, with a current focus on breast cancer screening. You can read more about Kheiron here. Our screening is being hosted by our kind friends at RocketSpace in their awesome Vault Cinema space. We’ll be kicking off from 6.30 pm with some drinks so you have some time to chat with some other awesome health techies. We'll be starting the film at 7 pm sharp so please try to be here by then.

This event is free but we charge a £5 deposit which is refunded on attendance - this way we know how many drinkies to buy and if you change your mind and can no longer attend, just let us know 24 in advance and we’ll refund you.
