GrainCorp and TE Food Create a Blockchain for
Beer To Deliver More Transparency to Consumers
Innovation Fueled by: TERRA, The Food + Ag Tech Accelerator
Industry Trend: Food Transparency for Consumers
Consumer awareness has increased, access to information has increased, and consumers are more sensitive to the origins of their food.
GrainCorp's Challenge
GrainCorp, a leading international agribusiness and food-ingredients processor, lacked the trusted digital tools necessary to showcase transparency in its supply chain.
RocketSpace Solution
RocketSpace sourced companies that enabled GrainCorp to show consumers where their ingredients are grown and manufactured, how they are processed, and the path the ingredients travel to get from farm to table. Or in this case, field to can.
TE Food Partnership
Through TERRA, RocketSpace paired GrainCorp’s Canadian portfolio companies with the German-based startup TE Food, a whole-chain food traceability solution, to develop a first-of-its-kind “BOCK CHAIN BEER,” using blockchain technology to trace the beer grain ingredients from field to can.
Results: GrainCorp + TE Food
A farm-to-glass collaboration: tracking barley/malt/beer with modern technology and showing the proof of origin, the treatment, and the processes.
The additional informative content allows GrainCorp and its customers to provide more transparent information to their consumers about the beers they are drinking. This increased level of transparency is anticipated to drive up consumer trust, and subsequently, increase sales.
